Counseling

I am a teen"listener" which means that I answer calls and talk to teens who are in crisis. I help callers through issues such as, suicide, self harm, anxiety, depression, child abuse, rape/sexual assault and more. I have dedicated more than 200 hours to teenline in the past year (so far), doing a 5 hour shift once a week since first coming into the hotline room, November of 2022.

  • 65+ hours of in-depth training in suicide and crisis intervention, among other sensitive topics

  • Received the listener of the month award in July 2023, first month as listener

“I am thrilled to endorse Mendez for her exemplary work as a crisis trained peer counselor. Over the past year and a half, I've had the privilege of supervising Mendez as she dedicates herself to supporting teens in crisis nationwide. She approaches each call with unparalleled empathy, authenticity, and professionalism.

With hundreds of hours of crisis and clinical skills training under her belt, Mendez has developed an exceptional ability to create a safe, non-judgmental space for callers to share what they’re going through. Her ability to actively listen and give thoughtful responses makes every caller feel heard, understood, and contained.

Mendez is always a team player and she is a natural leader in the room. She’s always willing to offer her expertise, whether it’s to fellow peer counselors, new trainees, or even her supervisors. She helps foster a culture of support and inclusivity, which is essential to the work we do. Her charisma, kindness, dedication, and humor are contagious. I am confident she will continue to change lives and foster hope in those who need it most.
